ARE YOU PROGRAMMED FOR SUCCESS?
- Clarity of purpose. For a dream to become a reality, it must be specific. For example, being “thin” is an image; losing 23 pounds by your birthday is a goal. Begin by converting your dream into an achievable goal.
- Commitment. There’s a story from ancient Greece about a general who landed his troops on the beach, then burned the ships. He wanted each soldier to know there was no turning back. Once your goal is clear, emotionally commit to achieving it. Believe there are no alternatives.
- Talk about it. This creates accountability. By telling others about your goal, your friends and family will support you and check up on your progress.
- Write it down. This is one of the oldest and most powerful techniques for achieving any goal. Write it down! Describe precisely what you want, how you will earn it, when you will have it, and the benefits you’ll receive from achieving your goal. Be detailed.
- Take action every day. “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” Any worthy goal is worth a few minutes of your time every day.
- Celebrate each milestone. Never wait to give yourself a pat on the back. Making a positive change, even if it’s just the first step, re energizes and strengthens your resolve. After all life is a journey, not a destination. Take joy in every step.
