Clotilda Africatown Exhibit

History Museum of Mobile is excited to announce that CLOTILDA: THE EXHIBITION at Africatown Heritage House will open to the public on Saturday, July 8, 2023.

Since the spring of 2020, the History Museum of Mobile has been curating, constructing, and preparing to operate an exhibition at the newly-constructed Africatown Heritage House that details the stories of the 110 men, women, and children brought to Mobile aboard the Clotilda.
Called “The Landing” by the descendants of the Clotilda’s survivors, July 8th marks 163 years since their ancestors arrived on American soil, against their will. Several days of programming will highlight the stories and will include a ribbon-cutting of Africatown Heritage House.
Africatown Heritage House will be open from Tuesdays through Saturdays, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The exhibition will have limited capacity, so tickets should be purchased in advance. Tickets will likely become available online in early summer.
The History Museum of Mobile is deeply grateful to the many partners that have facilitated this project, especially Commissioner Ludgood and the Mobile County Commission. The museum would like to acknowledge the City of Mobile, the Alabama Historical Commission, the Alabama Power Foundation, the Daniel Foundation of the Alabama, and the Crampton Trust for their integral roles, as well.
All press inquiries should be directed to media@clotilda.com.
