David Williams Moments in Time Photography Exhibition

The Deerwood Gallery at Florida State College at Jacksonville presents “Moments in Time: The Photography of David Williams.” Spanning three decades, this collection of photographs captures iconic moments in African American culture and politics in the Jacksonville area. Williams has photographed famous visitors to the city such as Rosa Parks, President Obama and Jesse Jackson as well as visiting jazz, R&B and rap musicians and other entertainers. The exhibit includes photographs of important local figures and events documenting Jacksonville’s political landscape and milestones.

David Williams was born in Norwalk, Connecticut, and grew up with his grandparents in Camden, South Carolina. As a child, he poured over copies of Look and Life magazines, and the coverage of the civil rights movement captured in the pages. He joined the Navy as a young photographer, and chose to stay in Jacksonville after being stationed at NAS Cecil Field. Williams has published images in Ebony, Time, Black Men and Word-Up magazines. He has created commercial photogra- phy for Budweiser, Fleishman Hillard and the City of Jackson- ville. His photography has been displayed at Ritz Theatre and Museum, City of Jacksonville and Winn-Dixie corporate offices. He is currently working on the publication of DUVAL – Moments in Time. He previously completed the publication JACKSONVILLE, Reflections of Excellence.
