Jazz & Blues Series
3 Weekends, 6 Exceptional Performances!
The inaugural Fort Mose Jazz & Blues Series is a collection of six memorable performances honoring both the rich history of American music, and the legacy of the first free Black settlement in what is now the United States.
In the course of three weekends, from February 11-25, 2022, world-class artists like Taj Mahal and Gregory Porter will grace our stages to celebrate these two incredible genres of music at Fort Mose Historic State Park. Proceeds from this event will support construction of an on-site fort representation and development of interpretive resources. The original fort was destroyed during the Battle of Bloody Mose in 1740.
Join us as we celebrate history, freedom, and creativity–through the incomparable joy of live music.
“Fort Mose is one of the most important places in American history, and especially African-American history. It represents the ideals of freedom, democracy, and the aspirations of a people to live their lives fully and to participate in a society with all rights and privileges afforded to them as equal human beings. Their story is all of us. Their story is what Jazz music represents – the willingness to work hard to help make one’s community a better place for all.”
