Juneteenth Dedication Ceremony

Join the LMCC this Juneteenth weekend on June 18th to commemorate the sacrifices that local Civil Rights activists made in St. Augustine and celebrate the emancipation of enslaved peoples across America. The dedication ceremony will include a public unveiling of the F.W. Woolworth counter, currently on display at the LMCC, and a formal proclamation from the city. After the ceremony, guests are welcome to visit the museum’s exhibits.

The Woolworth counter was the site of a sit-in protest against segregation, which a number of young students participated in and were arrested. Those arrested were offered their freedom in exchange for a promise that they would no longer participate in the movement. Four of these students, later known as the St. Augustine Four, refused to sign their rights to protest away, and were sent to reform schools as punishment. The counter was recently added to the museum’s exhibits, and will be on view at the dedication ceremony.

The event will run from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., located at the Lincolnville Museum and Cultural Center at 102 Martin Luther King Ave.  Parking is available in front of the museum and along Pomar Street. Paid parking is available across the street. The LMCC is an accessible building.
