Resistance and the Black Church

Black theology, or black liberation theology, refers to a theological perspective which originated among seminarians and scholars, and in some black churches in the United States and later in other parts of the world.

It contextualizes Christianity (and other faiths) in an attempt to help those of black and brown overcome oppression. It especially focuses on the injustices committed against indigenous people in the American South as much as the “Black Natives” of South Africa during the twin apartheid era of eugenics and Jim Crow segregation.

A lecture (The call) followed by a virtual roundtable discussion (The response) providing commentary and critical analysis. Q & A from audience is also part of the response. “The Close or benediction will conclude the formal part of session, followed by musical renditions. Participants will include Dr. John Kinney, Virginia Union University, Samuel Dewitt Proctor School of Theology; Yolanda Pierce, Howard University; Dr. Terrence L. Johnson; Julia Robinson Moore, UNC Charlotte Department of Religious Studies; Rev. Earle J.
