The Fort Mose Jazz & Blues Series announces updates to the lineup, including the addition of New Orleans jazz-funk artist Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue performing on Saturday, February 26. Due to unforeseen circumstances, Taj Mahal and Christian McBride are forced to cancel their performances on Friday, February 11 and Saturday, February 12, 2022. Refunds for Taj Mahal and Christian McBride will be available via point of purchase. Tickets for Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue will go on sale today, Monday, December 20 at 11:00am via Ticketmaster.com.
Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue’s music respects Crescent City traditions while pushing the boundaries of those traditions, adding pop, rock and hip-hop influences. “Allen Toussaint told me, ‘Learn everything you can, take everything you can from us, but don’t be us,’” Shorty says. “The responsibility put on me is to move the music forward.” Trombone Shorty’s new album opens with a dirge, but if you think the beloved bandleader, singer, songwriter and horn-blower born Troy Andrews came here to mourn, you got it all wrong.
Fort Mose Jazz & Blues Series is a collection of five performances taking place onsite at Fort Mose Historic State Park from February 18-26, 2022 to honor the history and celebrate the cultural significance of the first free Black settlement in what is now the United States.
Proceeds of this series will support the construction of an on-site fort representation and development of additional interpretive resources. The original fort was destroyed in 1740.
